INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Enhance Your Knowledge Base and Skills

The Douglas Center offers internship opportunities tailored for Bachelor’s and Master’s students in Social Work and Counseling programs. Our internships provide hands-on experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as mental health issues. These opportunities are designed to deepen understanding and skills in serving both populations.

Interns engage in diverse responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Case management
  • Group counseling
  • Program development
  • Intake processes
  • Documentation

Each intern receives mentorship from a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) supervisor, fostering professional growth and development throughout the internship.

Since its inception in January 2020, our internship program has hosted numerous students who have contributed significantly to our community. Our supervisor’s dedication and excellence have been recognized with awards from three universities and acknowledged by a fourth.

We collaborate with a growing number of universities, currently including Loyola University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Northeastern University, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Dominican University, and Capella University. We welcome undergraduate students, as well as first and second year Master’s students to apply for these enriching internship opportunities.

For information on applying for an internship with The Douglas Center, please contact David Banas, Director of Program & Clinical Services at dbanas@thedouglascenter.org.

TESTIMONIALS

Slide

Interning at The Douglas Center was an amazing and rewarding experience in which I learned much more than I had expected to learn. At the beginning of, I would spend a lot of time preparing for counseling and groups, but now I can confidently go in and do counseling or run groups without preparing (or by preparing for just a few minutes). The best thing about The Douglas Center is really the people. I have no doubt that interning at a similar program would be much worse because the community here is really just amazing. The people here are excellent at their jobs and very committed, but most importantly, they have a sense of humor!
